DEBORAH COLKER DANCE COMPANY

 

Founded in 1994, the Deborah Colker Dance Company celebrates 30 years in 2024. With fifteen performances in its repertoire, it is one of the most highly awarded and renowned dance companies in the world, having received the Moscow Prix Benois de la Danse in 2018, the most important award of its kind. The troupe also received a Laurence Olivier Award in 2001, the renowned British award bestowed by The Society of London Theatre. In 2009, the Cirque du Soleil invited Deborah Colker to create OVO, becoming the first woman to direct a performance for the Canadian circus. In 2016, she was the movement director for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics opening ceremony, broadcasted to over two billion people worldwide. In 2022, the Scottish Opera presented "Ainadamar" by Osvaldo Golijov, the first production directed by Deborah, that she will reprise in 2024 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The partnership with the Metropolitan includes a new performance that premieres in 2026. In three decades, the company has carried out over 2,000 performances in about 75 cities across 32 countries, for nearly 3.5 million people.
